Last Minute Transfer Thoughts
Ok so this piece is going to be quick and it will most likely be filled with typos (sigh). So what am I going to write about you ask? Well, transfers duh, I mean it's deadline day what else should I be focused on? Anyways here's my completely unorganized thoughts on today's buzz.
Spurs Spurs Spurs
Despite missing out on Paulo Dybala (goddamnit), Daniel Levy has signed both Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon. Both of these signings are huge in my opinion. Sessegnon is a young versatile defender with tremendous potential and Lo Celso is a young Argentinian midfielder that will make Tottenham's midfield even better. This transfer window has been good to Spurs. If only they could've sold Eriksen. Believe me, he's marvelous but he's most likely going to leave on free next summer where if Spurs sold him this summer, they could've cashed in. Still a kick-ass summer for Spurs.
Arsenal Working Magic
Arsenal signing all these world-class players just in time to lose to Newcastle on Sunday. I'm joking but what better way to shut up all the annoying Arsenal fans on Twitter than a nice fat L? I mean, Arsenal was horrid on the road last year. Anyways, let's get on with it, enough Arsenal slander (for now).
So with a budget of approximately $54 million. Arsenal killed this transfer window.
William Saliba (despite him returning to St. Etienne on loan for this season)
Gabriel Martinielli signed
Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid
Nicolas Pepe from Lille for a club-record fee
Kieran Tierney signed
David Luiz up next?
I hate Arsenal but they bossed this summer. I remember in June it looked like Arsenal was set for yet another grueling summer which would yield an agonizing season. Now, Arsenal fans around the world have a lot to be excited for.
Side-Note:
As a Chelsea fan it sucks to see David Luiz leaning towards a move to Arsenal but Arsenal could use him. The 32-year-old Brazilian has a bit left in the tank and he is perfect for this season. He's not a long-term option at center-back but he can be bridge the gap that is this season until next summer when Arsenal can splash on a world-class center back for the future.
Manchester United (is a dumpster fire)
While Arsenal and Tottenham are busy getting signings over the finish-line, Manchester United is doing god knows what. How come the biggest club in the world seems to be working on one deal at a time and even that given deal seems destined to fail despite the attention placed on it?
Anyways, United just sold Lukaku for way too much money and who do they have to replace him? Crickets. Yeah, nobody. Who needs a strong center-forward anyways right?
This season has last season written all over it. Yes, United's defense is stronger with the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire, but United will be reliant on a handful of stars to deliver.
United was unable to find Paul Pogba a strike-partner and not only did they not sign anyone to help him, but they also let Ander Herrera leave on a free resulting in an even more depleted midfield. Now, hopefully, McTominay will continue to develop and maybe Fred and Andreas Pereria won't play like total crap this season.
Anyways, United left Pogba out to dry and they're doing little to convince him to make Manchester his home for the unseeable future. The goal-scoring will be entirely up to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial up front and maybe Daniel James and Mason Greenwood can make bigger impacts than expected. Either way, United is going to need to dig deep this summer.
Everton (Baller FC)
I freaking love this team. So many young ballers on the attack.
Moise Kean
Alex Iwobi (I think)
Richarlison
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Bernard
This team is going to kick some serious ass this season. Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andres Gomes running the midfield and breakout star Lucas Digne paired with Seamus Coleman as full-backs. Don't forget Michael Keane was excellent at center-back and although Kurt Zouma is probably staying at Chelsea, perhaps Yerry Mina can stay healthy and become a regular in Everton's starting XI.
Iwobi to Everton deal isn't official yet and if they can manage to snag him from Arsenal, they're going to have a really good team on their hands. I'm very excited to watch them this season that's for sure.
So this is about it. I was going to write about Manchester City but I have to go to work so sorry about that. Regardless, the 2019-2020 Premier League season starts TOMORROW. I'm excited, are you? I hope your favorite team did well in this summer's transfer window! Mine was banned from it so there's that.
