My Favorite Premier League Transfers... So Far
So I'm assuming your favorite team has made some pretty big signings this summer. If not, don't fret. Your club is probably strong already or maybe they just really suck at conducting business. Anyways, here's my favorite Premier League transfers so far.
10. Moise Keane- I freaking love this signing. Why? Because I love Moise Kean. I don't think people understand how impressive his campaign was last season. To rise up amongst strikers like Cristiano Ronaldo and Mario Mandzukic is an incredible feat for a 19-year-old kid. Now, he'll take his talents to the Premier League in what I think is an incredible move form him as well as Everton.
When this summer transfer window opened. I was convinced that Everton was a left-winger away from being a dangerous team, chock full with young talent. Now, months later, they're in a similar spot. Although Idrissa Gueye left for PSG, Everton has signed Andres Gomes to a permanent contract and they brought in Fabian Delph to strengthen the midfield.
Filling the void left by Gueye, Everton seemed to be fixated on central-players. Then they went out and signed Moise Kean to a 5-year deal. The young Italian striker is going to be one of the leagues most exciting players next season. His ability to stand out on a team filled with world-class forwards was sensational. I'm excited to see what he can bring to the table for Everton.
Side note: 1st choice striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin only scored 6 league goals last year. Keane will help get Everton's goal-tally up. Could we see Calvert-Lewin deployed on the left-hand side? Or will he ride the bench? Despite a low goal tally, Calvert-Lewin's movement off the ball and hold-up play was excellent. It will be interesting to see how Everton line-up against Crystal Palace on Saturday. I wouldn't be surprised if both Kean and Calvert-Lewin are in the starting XI.
9. Mateo Kovacic- After being on loan at Chelsea last season, the Blues signed him to a permanent deal. Kovacic wasn't exactly what most Chelsea fans hoped for last season as he was rather inconsistent. Even so, the Croatian midfielder is a good signing for Chelsea, especially when under a transfer ban. Kovacic will provide depth to the midfield and he'll battle with Ross Barkley for minutes.
I liked Kovacic a lot at Real Madrid. How he'd come into games off the bench with tremendous energy. I'd love to see more of that from him at Chelsea. Perhaps his sophomore season at Stamford Bridge will be a standout one? One can hope.
8. Rodri- Manchester City already have one of the best teams in Europe, they didn't need a huge summer transfer window. Even so, they signed the perfect player. With City's beloved Fernandinho being 34-years-old, they brought in Rodri from Atletico Madrid. The young Spanish holding midfielder is exactly what City need. A player who is strong in possession and can excel in City's high press-system. And who better to learn under than Fernandinho? Sensational signing by City. I'm excited to see Rodri in action.
7. Tanguy Ndombele- For me, Spurs are the team to watch this season. Last season, they mounted a campaign in which they finished in the top four as well as a run to the Champions League Final. Spurs when healthy, have the firepower to mount a title-chasing season even before Ndombele even arrived.
The young French midfielder adds tremendous talent to a midfield already brimming with it. Ndombele is a true box to box midfielder. It will be very interesting to see how Spurs line-up this season. With the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier, and, Victor Wanyama all vying for minutes as well as Ndombele. Spurs are a bit thin at the right-back position as well as striker, but their midfield is just so damn good. Spurs are dangerous this season. Ndombele will take them to a new level. Let's just see if they can manage to avoid shooting themselves in the foot as they've done in recent years.
6. Aaron Wan-Bissaka - I'm not going to lie, I didn't see much of Wan-Bissaka last season. Regardless, I've seen enough of him to know that he's the real deal. A right-back with tremendous athletic talent, Wan-Bissaka is a significant upgrade from an aging Ashley Young.
The best part of Wan-Bissaka? He's just getting started. The 21-year-old has a lot of work to do in an attacking sense and if he perfects that part of his game, he will well on his way to becoming one of the best full-backs in the world. United was in desperate need of a defensive upgrade and Wan-Bissaka is a huge one.
5. Youri Tielmans- This move shcoked me. Why? Because I thought Tielmans was on his way to a bigger club. It's great that he's still in the Premier League but why Leicester City? On loan from AS Monaco last season, Tielmans was spectacular as he recorded 4 goals and 3 assists in just 13 Premier League appearances. I thought that a bigger club would jump at the chance to sign him.
I was convinced Liverpool would snag him considering they’re a true attacking midfielder away from being a complete team. Tielmans was the perfect alternative to Coutinho who would cost a fortune as well as bring a tremendous amount of attention with him.
Nonetheless, Leicester City, even without Harry Maguire, are going to field a really good team this season. I'm Happy for Tielmans and I'm excited to see him play this season. I also think he is an excellent fantasy Premier League pick!
4. William Saliba- why do I rate so Saliba so highly? Because of what he means to Arsenal. Despite having to loan him back to his former club St. Etienne this season, Arsenal signed a young center-back with tremendous promise.
The Gunners were in dire need of center-backs with the likes of Shkodran Mustafi being poor last season and Laurent Koscielny attempting to force his way out of the club.
18-year-old Saliba will provide Arsenal with a tremendous center-back option for years to come despite not being at the club this year.
3. Christian Pulisic - You know I had to put him on here. Chelsea's American wonder-kid will have a chance to make an impact at Stamford Bridge this season. With Eden Hazard leaving Chelsea for Real Madrid, Pulisic is one of Chelsea's young pieces who will be keen to make his mark.
Along with Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tammy Abraham, and Mason Mount, Pulisic is the future of Chelsea. Can he help them this season? I think so.
2. Nicolas Pepe- This has to be like Christmas for Arsenal fans. With a reported budget of $54 million, Arsenal went out and got Pepe for $91 million, a club-record fee. Arsenal is paying his former club, Lille, in installments which is probably the only way they could afford him.
Pepe is huge for Arsenal. He's a much-needed winger considering Alex Iwobi was the only other player who’d feature as a winger for the Gunners. Now with Pepe, Arsenal will most likely feature a front-three of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexander Lacazette, and Pepe. That's a sensational front-three. Let's just hope that Arsenal's defense can hold their own.
1. Harry Maguire - I know what you're thinking. Why Maguire? Or that United paid wayyyyy to much for his services. Perhaps. But I don't think so. For me, Maguire is one of the best center-backs on the planet. His world-record fee for a defender is worth every penny for United. Here's why.
Last year, United's right half of the defense was incredibly weak. The combination of Chris Smalling and Ashley Young was poor. Now, it's incredible. Yes, Harry Maguire isn't Virgil Van Dyk, but he's a huge upgrade from Smalling and Phil Jones. Plus, when alongside Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, and Luke Shaw, United's defense went from poor to one sensational.
Did United overpay for his services? I don't think so. He was the keystone piece in United's defense. Now, the Red Devils boast one of the best defenses in the league. Plus, with David De Gea in goal, United are looking really strong on the defensive side of the ball.
So there you have it. My favorite Premier League transfers so far this summer. With less than a week until the 2019-2020 season kicks off, it's crunch time as teams look to make last-minute deals. I'm sure there are more moves to come and I'm sure they'll be exciting ones. Even so, I hope you liked my picks! Let me know what you think in the comments below!
