Juventus Is Winning This Transfer Window At The Expense Of A Club On The Brink Of Peril
While Real Madrid is spending hundreds of millions signing players, Juventus is quietly amassing a talented midfield for virtually nothing. Yes, they will most likely cash in on Matthijs De Ligt, but don't take away the incredible business being conducted by the Italian club.
Ramsey
This summer, Juventus acquired the services of both Aaron Ramsey and Adrian Rabiot both of which they acquired on frees. Rabiot is 24 and approaching the prime of his career. Ramsey is 28 and why Arsenal let their best midfielder go for free is beyond me. Ramsey was easily Arsenal's best midfielder this season and his legacy as a gunner was an exciting and special one. This summer, Arsenal is battling a thin budget in the transfer window and funds acquired from the sale of Ramsey would be crucial in Arsenal's quest to sign big players. Nonetheless, Arsenal let him go for free. Now the fate of the midfield will be in the hands of Mesut Ozil who has been unsatisfactory at best and Lucas Torreira who has been linked to AC Milan. It seems like Arsenal let their best midfielder go for free in the prime of his career. In a time where Arsenal need every penny, they can muster.
Rabiot
I'm not going to lie I practically forgot about this guy. He was a complete no show last year as he barely featured for PSG and was left out of France's 2018 Wolrd Cup squad. Although he's been a bit of a ghost this past year, I do remember just how talented he is. The young midfielder has the ability to utterly dominate a game. He plays a composed style of football in which he can dictate play from the center of the pitch. This is an absolute steal for Juve and his services will not be taken for granted like they were at PSG. I'm glad that Rabiot is back and a midfield of him, Ramsey and Miralem Pjanic is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
The Fate of Arsenal
So what does this mean for Arsenal? Their midfield sucks. There's no way around it. Mesut Ozil is 30 and far from his old productive self. Lucas Torreria is excellent and 20-year-old Matteo Guendouzi has a bright future at the club considering he impressed this year. The duo Guendouzi and Torreira is a promising one but they need someone like Ramsey to help guide them. They can't lead a team like Arsenal back into Champions League football. But with a thin budget, they might have to. Perhaps the acquisition of Wilfred Zaha will help ease the burden but the center of midfield remains a weak point for the gunners. Mkhitaryan could be thrown into the mix to ease the load. All in all, without their star man in the midfield, Arsenal could be in for another long season.
Big Business in Turin
As for Juventus, they just got two world-class midfielders for free. Why splash on Pogba when you can get Rabiot and Ramsey for free? Now, with the two frees and De Ligt, it really is Champions League or bust for Juve. Can Ronaldo lead the team to UCL triumph? Well if one thing is for sure, he definitely has the help. Plus Maurizio Sarri is an excellent manager. It seems like Juventus is making all the right moves. As for Arsenal, well… it seems like they're struggling to stay afloat.
