Why PSG Needs to Offload Neymar At All Costs and They Need to Do It Now
So we talked about Barcelona now let's talk about Paris St. Germain. One of the swaggiest clubs on the planet is anything but swaggy right now (not sure if that is a word). Anyways, if I worked for PSG, I'd be ushering Neymar out the door faster than he could pick up a new injury. Too soon? I think not. I'm tired of the circus. He needs to go. For PSG's sake.
PSG should be focused on pleasing one player and that player is Kylian Mbappe. The 21-year-old phenom will be the best player in the world in a couple of years. With rumors circulating about his desire to play for Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid, PSG needs to make moves to make sure that doesn't happen. And that means shipping Neymar back to Barca.
As you know, Barca offered up any duo of these six players: Coutinho, Dembele, Malcom, Semedo, Rakitic, and Umtiti. I'm still convinced that the perfect duo would be Coutinho and Dembele. Why?
Coutinho
Coutinho is the best player out of the six. His talents as both a winger and attacking midfielder are invaluable and he could add talent to a midfield in need of some. With Rabiot leaving on a free, PSG are reliant on Marco Veratti, Ander Herrera, and Julian Draxler. Throw Coutinho into that mix and now you're talking.
I'm not sure how it would work defensively, but it would be awesome seeing Draxler and Coutinho playing alongside each other as dual attacking mids.
Dembele
With Angel Di Maria and Edinson Cavani both on the wrong side of 30, PSG requires some reinforcement at the forward position. 22-year-old Ousmane Dembele needs a change in scenery. His Barca career hasn't been quite what his $140 million price tag suggested it would be. I don't think that's his fault I just don't know if he fits Barca's current mold. With Griezmann now at the club, it will be even harder for him to get minutes. Minutes are everything to Dembele if he wishes to make an impression on French manager, Didier Deschamps, before next summers European Championships.
Will Dembele start at PSG? Not right away. But he would most likely be the first man off the bench. Paired with Kylian Mbappe, the pace of the two Frenchmen combined would be too much to handle for opposing defenses. Boy, would that be a sight to see.
Is Dembele better than Neymar? Absolutely not but at least Dembele isn't a basket-case. Remember, Neymar hasn't been at his peak for quite some time now. One must look at him now rather than him at his height.
PSG would be stupid to pass up on Dembele. He has his whole career of ahead of him. Plus he's French. A minor detail but something that could go a long way towards keeping Mbappe at the club.
Malcom
Is Malcom a poor mans Dembele? I feel like that's really harsh but accurate. Malcom's price tag is in the $45 million range but who cares? PSG would get 2 of the 6 players offered by Barca for free. Malcom would be a solid pick up but Dembele probably has a higher ceiling. I'm merely speculating but I don't think PSG should act on Malcom.
Rakitic
Yeah hell no. Rakitic is world-class but he's 31. Barca don't need him as much as they used to considering De Jong is now at the club but Rakitic isn't worth it solely based on his age. Why deal for him when you just picked up Herrera and you have the option to get Coutinho instead
Umtiti
Samuel Umtiti was a vital piece of France's World Cup-winning squad as he started alongside Raphael Varane at center-back. Nonetheless, PSG has a pool of about 4 center-backs that they can call upon making Umtiti less than a priority for the French club. PSG has Thiago Silva, Marqunihos, Presnel Kimpembe, and Thilo Kehrer all at the ready. Don't get me wrong. Umtiti would be a great pickup but I think PSG has more pressing needs on other areas of the pitch.
Semedo
Other than adding depth to PSG's defense, I don't know how valuable Semedo would be to PSG. With Thomas Meunier the most likely first-choice right-back, he'd probably ride the bench. When dealing Neymar, PSG can't be focused on depth players. They need to get the most out of the deal meaning they need the most impactful players. Plus, don't Barca need this guy? They're a bit thin at right-back. Not worth it for PSG in my opinion.
So will a deal be struck between PSG and Barcelona for Neymar? Hopefully. If one thing is for sure, PSG needs to get rid of him. For more reasons than one. They just need to make sure they pick the right duo of players.
