Aston Villa Seems Destined for Relegation: What Does This Mean for Jack Grealish?
For me, Aston Villa isn’t necessarily a good watch. The club’s last win was on January 28th in which they beat Leicester City 2-1. Since then, they’ve lost five straight games although it is worth noting that one of them was the Carabao Cup Final against Manchester City.
If we’re being honest, I have barely watched this club. Even so, I do think the future is bright for Jack Grealish and if there’s any hope of avoiding relegation, it will be down to him.
That being said, I think that Aston Villa will be relegated but after such an impressive showing thus far this season, I find it hard to believe that Grealish won’t find a home at a different club. Here are his top landing spots for me and yes, they’re all in the Premier League.
#3 Everton
Everton is in an interesting spot, with their top attacking midfielder, Gylfi Sigurdsson in the midst of an underwhelming season, (one goal and two assists in 26 Premier League appearances) Everton should look elsewhere. The 30-year-old is under contract until the summer of 2022 but that doesn’t mean Everton can bring in some fresh talent.
At 24 years old, Jack Grealish could add much-needed creativity to Everton’s midfield. It remains to be seen if the manager, Carlos Ancelotti will make a move for him but I don’t see why he wouldn’t. Everton plays with two strikers (Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison) and Grealish could sit underneath both and facilitate play.
For Everton, pursuing Grealish seems like a no-brainer. He’d be a perfect fit in a promising squad with an abundance of young talent.
#2 Liverpool
Liverpool’s midfield is overflowing with talent. Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Fabinho, and Adam Lallana are all options for manager, Jurgen Klopp, but not of them are true attacking options outside of Lallana and he is most likely going to be sold this summer.
Klopp prefers to play with two box to box midfielders instead of an attacking midfielder and the club has succeeded with this model for quite a while now. The ability for Roberto Firmino to play striker but also facilitate play like an attacking midfielder is special.
Even so, if the club brings in the likes of Timo Werner, a true striker, it would be smart to bring in an attacking midfielder as well. Grealish sitting behind Werner would be dangerous but even if the German midfielder doesn’t come to Liverpool, playing under Roberto Firmino would be equally as dangerous if not more.
Grealish and Firmino could cause headaches for opposing defenses as fluid movement would be established between the two as they could seamlessly swap positions.
For Liverpool, Grealish could bring a lot to the table.
#1 Arsenal
Doesn’t Grealish just feel like Arsenal material? Despite all the Manchester United rumors, I think Grealish could have a bigger impact on a club like Arsenal. With Mesut Ozil at 31 years old, and Dani Ceballos most likely to return to Real Madrid once his loan is up, Arsenal need to hit the market for an attacking midfielder.
Grealish under Mikel Arteta intrigues me. While Ozil continues to be Arteta’s #1 option at attacking midfielder, I think a player like Grealish could flourish in Arsenal’s system. A lot of questions will be asked of Arsenal’s attack this summer as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is rumored to be on the way out. Alexander Lacazette’s future is up in the air as well.
With two of Arsenal’s most prolific attacking options likely to leave the club, Grealish could be even more valuable as he can feature at winger as well. As Arsenal hit the market for a striker with Lacazette and Aubameyang likely to leave the club, bringing in Grealish seems like a no-brainer and I think this is his most likely landing spot.
For Now
For the time being, the task of keeping Aston Villa in the Premier League will fall squarely on Grealish’s shoulders. The young English star leads his club in both goals and assists in Premier League play with seven goals and six assists. For now, I wish Greelish luck. That being said his tenure in the Prem is just beginning even if Villa are demoted to the Championship.
