A Season to Forget for Eden Hazard
It’s a shame that well-before the coronavirus pandemic, Eden Hazard was struggling to stay healthy. The 29-year-old phenom is in the prime of his career but injuries have made his transition from Chelsea to Real Madrid a frustrating one. Perhaps it’s best that the Champions League and La Liga seasons be canceled for the player’s sake.
Now I’m not writing this as an angry Chelsea fan. Yes, it sucks that Hazard left the club but it was time. Hazard gave his all for the club and a new challenge loomed large as he was in the prime of his career.
This season, Hazard has made only ten La Liga appearances in which he’s scored one goal while bagging four assists. In Champions League play, Hazard has made five appearances with only an assist to his name.
While injuries have not allowed him to hit the ground running, he has failed to make the impact he had hoped for. Real Madrid are currently sit at second place in La Liga just two points behind league leaders Barcelona. In the UCL, Real Madrid fell 2-1 to Manchester City in the club’s first leg of its round of 16 tie.
Despite missing their star signing for most of the season, all is not lost for Real Madrid. If what is left of the La Liga season is salvaged, Hazard could come onto the scene and add a much-needed boost for an attack that has had to rely on Karim Benzema more often than not. If Hazard had indeed been healthy for the majority of the season thus far, I believe that they would be in first place in the Spanish league and they probably would’ve handed Manchester City a loss back in March.
Of course, this is merely speculation but I don’t think my predictions are outlandish in the slightest. For practically a decade, Eden Hazard was one of the top players in football’s most competitive domestic league. His resume in a Chelsea speaks for itself as well as his Belgian one.
Despite being such an outstanding player, this season is probably one Hazard wouldn’t mind scrapping. His inability to stay healthy has led to a frustrating transition to the Spanish capital. Nonetheless, I have faith that he’ll bounce back. As I said before, he’s in the prime of his career it just comes down to if he can stay healthy or not.
With the number seven shirt, he has a lot to live up to. I want to see him shine in a Madrid shirt and to do so he just needs to stay healthy and the rest will come.
